Hurray! We left Virginia today!

   NorfolkWake behind Belle

Latitude 38 degrees N, Longitude 76 degrees 33W

At 9:47am we departed from home in light rain with overcast skies.  We were thankful it didn’t get as cold as predicted. 54 degrees almost seemed warm. 57 degrees in the cabin was warm as long as I was stowing our belongings.  “Belle” turns out to have much more storage space than I first realized.  We could possibly have enough food on board for the entire six months of our journey!

JB picked up our speed to 12 knots to arrive in Portsmouth, VA ( 89 nm) near Norfolk in 8 hrs.  The seas were calm as we planed south on the Chesapeake Bay.  In spite of the rain, it was a pleasant day.  We are tied up to the fuel dock at Portsmouth Boating Marina.  After refueling in the morning we’ll head down the Dismal Swamp to Elizabeth City, NC. Another rainy day is in the forecast. It will just make the sunshine even more appreciated!
